[kj] Book? Why, perhaps a film could be made that dramatized the old days?

Ah, this is why you need someone with 'the condition' around. We are the only people who'd know. The apes at the beginning of 2001 were the first to discover how to kill, the member of their tribe who actually first smashes the skull with a jawbone, being called Moonwatcher. Heh. The hotel at the end is a 'guilded cage', drawn from David Bowman's memory. A perfect environment created by TMA 2, the 3rd monolith, in which the astronaut could go throug various stages of evolution to become the energy entity known at the end of the book as the 'Star Child'.

Like we all don't know that? It's all about evolution really....um...okay...er...

A DARK SQUAT IN LADBROKE GROVE, SOMEWHERE IN THE 70'S... A DARKENED DOORWAY LOOMS OVER AN EX CHOIRBOY, WRITING STRANGE THINGS ON A NOTEBOOK. NEXT TO HIM, A YOUNG MAN WITH BLONDE HAIR STRUMS A GUITAR.

THEY LOOK AT EACH OTHER, THEY JAM SOME TUNES AND LYRICS, THEN SLOWLY CAST A GLANCE AT THE DARKENED DOORWAY, LOOMING OVER THEM...IT IS A STRANGE AND MYSTICAL MOMENT.

Toilet flushes and Big Paul appears, wondering if they have any new ideas?

Ah, one of those great movies that everyone loves but no one understands (what the hell were the apes at the beginning and the
bedroom at the end all about?). The MUSIC was cool though...

I am beginning to think the Monolith from
2001: A Space Odyssey was a Burman tube
amp draped in proper priestly garb, http://www.garnersclassics.com/pics/2001/monolith.jpg , godly and revered thing that it is.

(a precursor to Stonehenge, maybe?)
