If you want to convert dvd &/or video files you may use either
Handbrake - http://handbrake.fr/
or
Super © - http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

For viewing Video you can use either of the following.

VLC - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If your comfortable with Codec Packs you may use
K-lite codec pack. Though, many people do not like
or approve of Codec Packs.

A third option is using Media Player Classic Home Cinema.

A 4th option is using Media Player Classic with FFDSHOW Tryouts.
