[kj] Killing Joke: Clash influenced?

I have an old interview w/Strummer (who is my god) from a British music paper where he says he doesn't consider him self a real "singer". He goes on to say that Gregory Isaacs is a singer(and someone else who I forgot), but that he's not. He also says he doesn't listen to much current music, stating "I've never heard anything by Joy DIvision" (that's how old the interview was). I also have another interview w/him from shortly after the Clash broke up. THe interviewer (from some trendy US music mag) was pissing Joe off, to the point where he basically ended the interview. THe interviewer at the end said somehting like "So this is where you get up and walk away", and Joe said, "No, YOU do"...classic!

p.s. It should be a federal crime not to own "Streetcore", his post mortem Mescaleros album--it's sick!

Hmmmm... interesting premise. Both are great, important bands who both rose up during the same period (late 70s). I think, however, whatever similaries there are in sound are coincidental.
Coleman is -- and Strummer was -- a forceful and singular singer.
That's my take on it. Sorry about the quake -- hope you are doing well en Ciudad de Mexico, amigo.

Today i gave a listen to some Clash tunes here at work, and after listening a couple of times "The Magnificent Seven" it was evident to me that Jaz has some Joe Strummer influence in his singing. It's not the first time i think about this, but today after listening this song carefully I found some very familiar shoutings/screams, you know, the ones that go between the verses, some sort of "encouraging" choirs/screams by Joe Strummer. Those are pretty similar to the ones that you can find on songs by Killing Joke, let's say Pssyche (actually is it Pssyche or Psychee!?!?).

What do you think?

Nice weekend

(In a rainy and shakey Mexico city.
Just experienced a 5.9 Richter earthquake a coupe of hours ago.
No damages thankfully.)
