[kj] OT: chik chik BOOM!

Nationalist politics utilizes forms of Socialism. Parties like the BNP, and Nazi Germany work(ed)on the masses.
I am taking this from the original French Parliament. The 'People's' representation would sit to the left, the Aristocracy's to the right.

I should really have said 'could be a reaction', in regard to the marginalization aspect. Example; East LA.

How's that? is that a local Brit quirk of politics? cuz I can't think of any examples
here that show nationalism as being leftie.

Do you mean "community as self-marginalization" (among other things)?
Either way it can also be caused by strictly internal desires. It reminds me of how the founding story of Islam is that of the rejected and chased-into-the-desert-wilderness-to-die son of Abraham (Ishmael). Their (muslim) identity thrives off of it, like anyone who's been traumatized by rejection and so goes on to isolate themselves and/or reject others.

Yes, but there's a misconception here. As the BNP use a Nationalist platform, they are, in essence, left wing. Right wing is more concerned with the individual and Corporation (what was Aristocracy)
Even an allegiance to being politically left or right can be used as a smokescreen. Another mechanism in peoples 'ID'
Different cultures forming their 'own' community (or self-marginalisation) is a reaction to Nationalism. Just like religion, politics is not straight cut.

Nah, you're missing the point mate. Yep, things are getting worse regards racial integration, but
both sides are guilty, which your average lefty isn't going to admit. Many asian communities have
ghettoised themselves. The typical lefty view of whitey leaving an area because foriegners move in
is slanted, because it doesn't factor in the fact that many whiteys are intimidated until they leave.

About ten years ago I saw on the news how great it was that one of our Birmingham red light
districts had been 'cleaned up' by the asian community living there. I knew exactly what 'cleaned up'
meant. Intimidation, threats & violence. What a success.

Please try to read the following statement without adding baggage:

"Your average UK bloke is not going to perceive your average asian (for example) as a pussy"

Essentially, when a dog bites back, you have to learn that you can't just kick it like before.

If the left would accept what common folk feel (which they traditionally haven't in regard to immigration)
then there would be no need for BNP.

The common man has not been listened to for decades now, as his opinion is considered intolerable.
The boil has to burst, no?

As i have lived out of the UK for so long now, truthfully, from an outside view it appears that some things are regressing. E.g. The BNP with a EU parliament seat? Christ, it even looks like the Tories are back. Is there any other party in with a chance? You're also touching that age old problem of Nationalism, where not everyone fits comfortably in its very definitive bracket.
Citizenship is taught alongside history now, does it really negate prejudice, or marginalise people more?

That's fair comment, but I think things have changed so much since he said that, that the common
bloke on the street wouldn't describe your average middle eastern dude as weak or feminised. In
reality, I think that describes the West pretty well. I think KJ have been saying that for years.

I hold my hands up to Islamic prejudice, fine, I couldn't give a fuck, though I'd widen the scope to
all religions. That HOWEVER does not mean these religions don't interest me - truth is they
fascinate me. But I wouldn't like to see Islam become as embedded in UK culture as, spit spit,
Christianity. I see religion as regression.

I think people like yourself are still a minority. Although a lot of Said's work is now dated.
We still have a US president describing the States as the 'Moral leader of the World'.
Islamic prejudice is fervent, too.

"Said concludes that Western writings about the Orient depict it as an irrational, weak, feminised "Other", contrasted with the rational, strong, masculine West"

You know, I don't think that's the case now, but things have changed, ie, plebs such as I are now more educated than ever.
