[kj] OT: List of Independent Record Shops that give you thatspecial feeling

Swordfish isn't the shop it was in my opinion
It doesn't get half the new releases it used to
And even for psych & prog CD reissues its not as good as it used to be
Though its worth trawling through the vinyl racks

The second hand bit at the back (only open on Saturdays)
Is worth perusing - you can find some nice slabs of second hand vinyl
For very reasonable prices.

I fear the internet is taking its toll

Tempest is pretty good for 'indie'/'alternative' (for want of better
Words) type things

And if you're feeling adventurous, head for King's Heath - for Polar
Bear Records - by far the best record shop in Brum, just round the corner
from the Hare & Hounds. The geezer who runs it, Steve, is a really nice
bloke and very knowledgeable. Everything from 70's prog & krautrock & Jazz,
To Black Metal, punk, Nick Cave etc etc, avant rock and beyond. Also lots
of vinyl - new and second hand

Peter

There's a few so-called independents in B'ham, but they've always been too
'hip' & scenesterish for me to be that interested. Swordfish I like though -
I go in there most times I'm up B'ham.
