[kj] [OT] John Pilger: Obama is a corporate marketing creation

Pilger has a ton of honourary degrees and awards for his investigative
journalism, if you read one of his books such as The New Rulers of the
World you'll see why. Highly recommended. His style does run to polemic,
but IMO it's hard not to when talking about cynical manipulators and power
mongers who use such eloquent and effective PR to cover up atrocities. I
think the same could be said for Noam Chomsky and Robert Fisk, who always
come to mind when I think of Pilger. i.e. the cream of the crop in that
field.

The humorous writer Auberon Waugh, writing in The Spectator in the 1970s
in response to an article Pilger had written alleging Thai complicity in
child trafficking, coined the verb "to pilger", to present information in
a sensationalist manner to reach a foregone conclusion

Noam Chomsky has expressed the view that pilger and pilgerise were
"invented by journalists furious about his incisive and courageous
reporting, and knowing that the only response they are capable of is
ridicule."[19]
