[kj] OT swine flu

If I was a betting man, my money would be on homo sapiens sapiens. Viruses
were discovered around 1890. That's 120 years of knowledge of the little
cnuts. The analogy of an eyeblink is appropriate. They adapt fast. We're
faster.
(yeah, I'm getting my fight on thinking about viruses.but I've been sick as
a dog enough times to resent the little shits. Campylobacter knocked me on
my ass for 3 years, made me give up the gym entirely for 2, left me with a
case of chronic fatigue, years of stomach problems, memory / concentration
probs etc.I'm 100% now but I had to work at it, I've got a score to settle
;)

Here we go (oseltamivir is Tamiflu):

nd%20Current%20Situation_partners_12_19.pdf
<http://www.health.state.nm.us/FLU/docs/Antiviral%2520Resistance_Background%
2520and%2520Current%2520Situation_partners_12_19.pdf>
1. Early and limited data from this season has detected a significant
increase in the proportion of influenza A (H1N1) viruses that are resistant
to oseltamivir.
2. . In the latest CDC FluView report published on December 19, 2008,
78 influenza viruses from 15 states had been tested for antiviral
resistance.
1. . This includes 50 influenza A (H1N1) viruses, 8 influenza A (H3N2
viruses) and 20 influenza B viruses.
1. . Preliminary data show:
1. o 49 of the 50 influenza A (H1N1) viruses tested were resistant to
oseltamivir (98%).
1. o These oseltamivir resistant viruses have been detected in 12
states, but the majority of samples have come from two states.
1. o All 50 influenza A (H1N1) viruses were sensitive to zanamivir and
amantadine and rimantadine.
1. o All 8 influenza A (H3N2) viruses remain sensitive to oseltamivir
and zanamivir.
1. o All 20 influenza B viruses remain sensitive to oseltamivir and
zanamivir.
1. o All influenza A(H3N2) viruses tested were resistant to amantadine
and rimantadine.

Tamiflu could supposedly lower our resistance to all strains of influenza,
in the long run (Not an uncommon thing with many medications). I was told
this by a Gilead rep a few years back. I would like to find some source
online to this...
I know Jesus was supposed to be a Jew, but do you think he was a Zionist,
too?
Speaking of Israel, they have issues with the name Swine flu. They say it's
anti-semitic.
Wouldn't calling it Mexican flu be derogatory to Mexicans, then?

Many proteins are sulphur based yet you wouldn't munch into a chunk of
sulphur.a lot of it depends on chemical composition and quantity etc.
Isn't it funny how around the same time we're butting up against the natural
barriers / consequences of our economic lifestyle, we're also coming up
against natural environmental barriers - food shortages, temperature
increases, spread of viruses..hrm. Gonna be in interesting decade coming up.

"Any more info on the shareholding of Tamiflu, are they really *major*
shareholders?..."
Can only find this on Rumsfeld and Bush:
http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Gilead_Sciences
In January 1997, Donald Rumsfeld
<http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Donald_Rumsfeld> , a Board
member since 1988, was appointed Chairman of the company.[7]
<http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Gilead_Sciences#_note-6> He
stood down from the Board in January 2001 when appointed Secretary of
Defense
<http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Secretary_of_Defense&action=edit
> at the start of George W. Bush
<http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=George_W._Bush> 's first term as
President. Federal disclosure forms indicate that Rumsfeld owns between
USD$5 million and USD$25 million in Gilead stock. The rise in Gilead's share
prices from USD$35 to USD$57 per share will have added between USD$2.5
million to USD$15.5 million to Rumsfeld's net worth. [8]
<http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Gilead_Sciences#_note-7>
In November 2005, George W. Bush urged Congress to pass $7.1 billion in
emergency funding to prepare for the possible H5N1(bird flu) pandemic, of
which one billion is solely dedicated to the purchase, and distribution of
Tamiflu.
