[kj] (OT) Pakistan

The Jehovah's Witnesses, to cite an example, have so far declared impending
Armageddon on at least five separate dates which have passed without the End
Of Days.

Oddly, the publications in which they nominated these dates tend to
disappear shortly after the missed appointment.

Luckily, some enterprising fellow scanned them all. They make interesting
reading.

The 2012 thing is particularly entertaining, as it all seems to stem from
the end of a multi-millennia spanning Mayan calendar. At which point,
according to the Mayan Calendar, it will start again, not incinerate the
earth.

The true pity is that when the world does finally end, the particular sect
who had coincidentally picked that day won't have the opportunity to don
their "I Told You So" t-shirts.

Yeah the world didn't end in 2000, it's not likely to end in 2012 either.
This apocalyptic shit comes around every few years.
