True but to take on a hoard of Taliban and hold territory in what was once (still is?) the most weapons-saturated places on earth, I'd prefer an AK-47 with one of those taped-up triple-mega-banana-clips. Or a Nuke.

Hey those things aren’t that bad at all, they’re powerful as fuck, if you get shot with one of them, you’re fucking SHOT man, kiss your ass goodbye. In that environment it’s probably not a bad choice for long distance fighting.

Pretty shit at chose range compared to an automatic rifle. But hey, they worked a treat in Romancing the Stone and all the Indy movies ;)

I've heard that several those Pkstni gov't. local forces in the Tribal Areas are using Enfield-type bolt-action rifles against the Taliban.
They're prolly using them as currency to sweeten their terms of surrender to the other side.

I was thinking the same. Wasn't it something like 1 Pakistani 'Policeman' to 2 Taliban?.
I think I'd swap sides pretty quick in those circumstances! :/
But yes, good 'excuse'.

Eight platoons. A platoon being approx 40 blokes. Is it just me, or does 300 odd blokes (odd mainly cos of the turbans) sound a bit thin?

It all seems suspiciously convenient in terms of opening the door for the US to get into Pakistan . Perhaps I’m an irredeemable cynic. Oh and I think I just made up a word.

Something is very wrong if the Pkst.gov't. is deploying paramilitary troops to fight
the Taliban. If the U.S. in all its postRumsfeldian glory can't stop the Tlbn., how do
paramilitary troops stand any chance of it?  I guess winning is.. optional?
