[kj] (OT) Police Brutality part 2

SGI, Silicon Graphics, just got sold for $25M to a budget server company
(!). Jim Clark, the founder, made his first billion out of that company back
in the day. All went the way of the dodo with the rise of the PC - which now
looks like it might be going the way of the dodo with the rise of the
internet application server / cloud computing etc. Who knows. Probably Jim
Clark actually.

cool.that's awesome.

The article states that the man was 49 years old when he applied to be a
police officer? My intuition is telling me there is alot more to this story
than we know about.

He did, but he lost.

and it wasn't in L.A., it was in 1996 in New London, CT - but I saw it in
the news here in L.A. ;P

And this man didn't sue? What is the name of the man? This sounds
specious. I am not defending any profession, because they all have crazies
in them, but IQ tests aren't the way to go in ANY of them (a press rep would
be fired if he made the statement the officer was rejected because he was
"too smart", I should think..that would be admitting alot!). We have to
look at Emotional IQ, which is sadly lacking in alot of professions.

Years ago here in L.A. there was a guy who was barred from joining the
police because after being tested, the Police said he was "too smart"etc.
And after being pressed for clarification the police spokesperson said he
would be "too bored" to do his job or stay long at it, and all that because
he was, um, "too smart."

I'm not missing the point at all actually, I agreed with Stephen (!), and
cited psychological studies that show the police force attracts a thug
element...
