Yes, but maybe some of the 'Black Shirts' etc. aren't really protesters?

I've been at a couple of protests/rallies (mainly filming) and know a few 'professional rabble-rousers' (my joking pet term for professional activists) and i've never known any to think it was their right under 'freedom of expression' to trash and set fire to things. If anything, the ones i knew/know thought it at best something people tried to get away with doing (the torching and burning), but never something they were entitled to. To conflate the two is a big mistake.

Also, from what i understand of protest planning, it is actually a sign of bad (or, lack of) leadership to allow a protest rally to degenerate to a destructive or belligerent point, and was actively avoided. I've seen several times orders being given out to identify and physically stay away from "Anarchists", the "black shirts/masks"etc. (so as to make them stand out for law enforcement).

Of course none of the above much applies to the more extreme groups who set out to specifically to torch and burn, etc. but those are different types and must be dealt with differently to stop them. To treat legitimate protesters like the more destructive types is to provoke a 'reaction' - but then, maybe that's what some people do want but despite their butch-talk and preening can't actually say it, but instead can only wait for others to give them an excuse to rationalize and start kicking ass. Sad state of affairs on both sides at that point.
