[kj] O/T 50 guitar legends

In any list of my favourites, I too would vote for:

John McGeoch
Geordie
Daniel Ash
Tom Verlaine (& Richard Lloyd)

Fantastic players all.

To that list I would also add a few other (perhaps more traditional) choices:

Keith Richards (primarily from the 1968-1974 period with Mick Taylor)
Richard Thompson (anyone who hasn't heard it, or thinks RT is just a folk guitarist, should check out 'Shoot Out The Lights'. Seriously. You'll be impressed.)

I really like Dave Navarro too. Sorry.

Jim.

There are a million other things I should be doing like sending out cover letters or re-tooling my resume or scouring the job sites for new opportunities, but I can't concentrate on that right now, so here is my list of worthy guitarists (who crucially didn't make the cut on this inane list)

Great guitar playing -- as far as I'm concerned -- has less to do with musical chops and more to do with individual style.

Geordie K. Walker of Killing Joke
Andy Gill of Gang of Four
Keith Levene of Public Image Ltd.
Hugh Cornwell of the Stranglers
Ron Asheton of the Stooges
John McGeogh of Magazine/Banshees/PiL
Tom Verlaine/Richard Lloyd of Television
Billy Duffy of The Cult
Ivan Julian of Richard Hell & the Voidoids
Daniel Ash of Bauhaus/Love & Rockets
Wayne Kramer/Fred "Sonic" Smith of the MC5
Stuart Adamson of The Skids/Big Country
Jon Spencer/Judah Bauer of the Blues Explosion
Dr. Know of Bad Brains
East Bay Ray of Dead Kennedys
Greg Ginn of Black Flag
Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols
Johnny Thunders of the New York Dolls/Heartbreakers
Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins
Sterling Morrison of the Velvet Underground
Fast Eddie Clark of Motorhead

and

Dave Gedge of The Wedding Present (can you play that fast for an entire show? I thought not).

I’ll agree with that.  (I would.)  Second one was shit.  Not bothered after that.

Still no room for them in a top 50 of anything decent list.

That photo is one of the less ludicrous from a shoot that was published in Q magazine in the UK. They all looked like total knobs, especially Brandon, who will always be a little altar boy to me, spiv moustache or no spiv moustache. I’ll see if I can find a link to the pictures, as they’re hysterical.

Actually, I quite like some Killers tracks, mostly from the first album (the second Springsteen-esque one was an abomination), but they don’t half look daft.

I cannot listen to them, ever since the end of 'Control' happened..
They seem to spend half their life suing people, too..

why are the killers mentioned here?

they're on the radio & play guitars & looking at that list it's a wonder McFly aren't in there :)

Actually - try & play the intro to Mr Brightside - sounds simple but it's a - erm - killer.

Actually #2, I think the guitar in that song is fantastic as is the song.
