If you must worship something I would've thought that worshipping a natural form which actually exists; whose beauty, familiarity and constancy turns you on is much more rational than bowing down to an imaginary fwiend and master.

  ... whereas worshipping a hill is the zenith of rationality. One would run the very real danger of encountering Julian Cope in a wizard hat.

  Well we could start, ironically enough, with Christians. The Romans ripped a lot of them to pieces and nailed a few to wood.

   

  Pagans in history - notably Aztecs, but plenty more - have also killed a lot of their own people in sacrifices.

   

  Let's not forget the Viking raiders on the British Isles.

   

  I've nothing against pagans incidentally. Why the hell would anyone have anything against a pagan? It'd be a bit irrational to hate someone for worshipping a hill.
