Food has gone up a lot because of Ethanol. The farmers grow crops for fuel rather than for food.



One massive fuckup of the economy (here in the US) was/is the mortgage crisis and loans.

Most of that was due to a mandate that certain people (*ahem ahem*) in the gov't made that 

"Everyone is entitled to a house". It did not matter if they can afford it or maintain it,

they forced banks to give out loans to people that never would have given one to in the past.
