imo, Geordie's sound improved dramatically when he ditched the marshall pre
and power amp racks from 90's- 03 - for the framus amps on the next tour and
that includes the gathering dvd.

Still much lacking when compared from 83-firedances to 89-extremeties tone,
the power and presence of the dual Burman 4000 pro 8x10 stacks are the ideal
amp for geordie's complex and subtle style. all other amps rob Geordie and
the listener of so much of his tremendous sonic detail.

Hey fluwdot, curious what you thought of the sound on the XXV Gathering
cd/dvd? While conceding that it's a mastered production (and admitting my
ignorance in the nuances of sound tech), it sounded much better to me than
anything on the 2003 tour -- that gave me hope. I never thought I'd hear
"Song & Dance" (one of my favorites) or "Pandys" like that again. Too tough
to tell from the current Youtubin' what tone is coming to our shores, but
the anticipation is killing me.

P.S. If you bring the Burman, I volunteer my wife to help you carry it :)

bills...

The last two albums combined with the new tunes does make the string of
'chug chug shout' much too long. Thankfully the kj records of 21st century
haven't seen much play on the current tour, for If it weren't for their back
catalog, attending a kj show would be pointless for me. As well, Geordie's
guitar tone and creativity seems become less interesting with every passing
little buzzy 1/4th note.

And something I thought I would never imagine uttering, that geordie's sound
is the weakest link in this band currently. Given his tone is so anemic and
the volume & punch of his instrument has been completely emasculated, it is
essential that BPF and youth are back with a rejuvenated jaz.

What ever happened to that gigantic open warm carillon bell harp sound that
threatened the village heretics from atop valley's mount?!

Judging from the last two records and video of the current tour, The guitar
sound is like andretti in a rusty ford pinto that needs a tune up!

I must admit I was quite disappointed when I heard it - like Blobbert said
it sounded pretty much the same as Lighbringer.

Still, lets hear what it sounds like when it's done properly.

I am really hoping for something a bit different this time.

What I used to love was the fact no 2 recordings sounded the same - you
never knew what you were going to get.

Recently it's all seems a bit 'lazy' [chugga-chug-shout] - the creativity &
hunger to do something different seems to have gone.

C'mon KJ - throw us a curved ball!

Now BPF & Youth are back (for however long that may be) I'd love them to
take their time & come up with - for want of a better expression - their Sgt
Peppers.

A girl can dream can't she...?

I think both tracks will benefit from a proper (i.e. not HFTBOH style)
production
