Well, some of the earliest posts I made on this list bemoaned that we're
in the "throwback era" of music, where every band is judged in terms of
what they're a throwback to. I feel the same way you do -- I crave
originality -- but also, how many people were creaming their pants that
THE ORIGINAL LINE UP of KJ would be re-uniting to play the 1st two LPs,
etc.

I have mixed feelings about new bands that sound like old ones. On the
one hand, you cannot make rock and roll that is free of influences.
Period. Having said that, there is a certain sound I like, and just as
you'll find people playing the blues nowadays that sounds like it hasn't
changed much since the 1960s, I also like the subgenre of post-punk,
which does have a certain discernible sound that is bound to be compared
to prior bands.
