I'd hope they call themselves Fedaykin !

So, do you want *me* to, ahem, 'develop' your third eye?

Bah, try to develop the 3rd eye and so far all I've got is the power of
remote embarrassment. FUCKING useless.

I wonder if Shihad fans refer to themselves as Shihadi, or the Shihadim?
With what the band are doing these days they're probably attracting EMOs,
ugh. Shame. Actually I saw them at the Big Day Out festival this year, most
of their set sucked except they did 'Screwtop', a Coleman-era track off
Churn, fucking killer. Rest of it was pretty boring.

Yeah, Shaitan, Shai Hulud, The Maker, etc, etc. Shit man, dunno why I
was so *sure* about that then. I think it's the Fremen pronounciation
of Jihad that has a 'sh' at the start. I'm literally embarrassed I got
it wrong!!!

Went through all six again a few years ago - amazing how a decade can
change you enough that you see totally different things in the books.
When I was 17 I was more interested in the hero-dom of Paul, whereas
my most recent read of them had me focusing on the whole philosophical
journey that Herbert was on whilst writing them.

There's a lot to learn from those books !

Don't think so, the worms were called Shai Halud or something...I've read
the Dune series too, brilliant. Need to read it again.

So do you ;)

Yeah, I read that one on Wikipedia - it's right that it comes from Dune,
but it's not a misheard version of jihad, though that word certainly is
used,
but Shihad (spelt exactly the same as the band name) is the name for the
great big fuck off sandworms.

I'm a Frank Herbert nut :)

Also I wonder if Shihad's use of York St pre- or post-dates the acrimony
with Jaz...they are listed as a client on the website. Interestingly
they're listed as 'Pacifier' which is the shit name they changed to in
anticipation of the US audience not being able to digest the word Shihad
post 9/11...so they may well have used it since all that shit went down.

Changing their name to pacify (pun intended) the american audience really
pissed a lot of old fans off, myself included. Shihad was a mistaken
interpretation of the word Jihad in the first place. At least they had the
grace to change the name back and say they regretted doing it in
hindsight. But for a lot of fans like Bongo and I it was game over from
that point.

They used to be a fucking good band back in the day:

That song was reportedly written with Jaz in mind. As was another off same
album (Killjoy, 1994, which they recorded after their split with Jaz after
he produced their prior album Churn). And I've heard that they did a track
later on called Killing Jaz, but I lost interest in them around '99.
