PETA are annoying for a number of reasons; I don't get how they can have
so many attractive naked women doing their bidding. What is their secret?

Still, however, does anyone remember that the US just came out of the
biggest beef recall n its entire history only a week or so ago?

From undercover footage taped in slaughterhouses not by PETA -- but by
the Humane Association, which is not some easy-to-dismiss organization
like PETA, but fairly mainstream. They had "plants" inside
slaughterhouses videotaping sick, mentally ill, disabled, retarded, etc.
cows being brutally forced into salughter pens where their heads were
bolted with air guns. Some cows were so ill and diseases that they had
broken legs, could not walk, and had to be lifted via forklifts into the
salughter pen to meet their deaths. It was really revolting

Amazingly, this disturbing footage got airplay on mainstream media in
the US which can be very protective of its red blood 'Murican meat
eating habits. Even meat eaters were outraged. Now the USDA is talking
about installing cameras in slaughterhouses to monitor how they do stuff.

Easiest answer is to avoid beef or, horror or horrors, avoid meat. USDA
etc. are treating this like this was some freak accident and normally
it's only healthy cows that become hamburger, that this was an aberration.
