The real problem here in the UK though is that people will indeed start doing exactly that as there's no one else to uphold the law / protect them on the streets. This is not something I'm calling for, simply pointing out how humanity works...

a sidearm or whatever is appropriate for self-protection.

I still worry about this kind of shit happening to me. It was worse when I had long hair and did the full on goth thing, but I still get nervous walking home late on a friday or saturday night.
