The final CC happened last Friday, and bugger me if I didnt end up a pogoing madly at the end of the last song, so disruptive. We had a whale of a time. The boys brought on a big wheel with all the songs written on it, and various characters came on and spun it.
Some bloke in the mens toilets was being talked to as if he was someone or another. Turned out to be James Dean Bradfield. A sincere man, but I dont like the Manic's.
Lots of acts came on before them, including Pete Wylie, JD Bradfield and some bloke from Liverpool with long hair. With a guitar. Oh, and a drummer who looked like Ed Harris. So they did Sheena's a Punk Rocker and Wylies song, Come Back, of course. Wylie didnt stop mouthing off.
At the end, after people like Mrs Jones, Mrs James (Bless 'em) and Rhys Evans had come on to give the disk a twirl, the Alabama 3 crew came on and did their big song. Guess... The stage was crowded with the CC entourage and it was like a panto. Brilliant. Should I stay or should I go sat there on the wheel amongst the other songs...teasing us with its presence...taunting us as it wasnt selected...until its time came at last. A belter of a rendition.
Waited till 3 in the morning then finally caught Mick, got an amazing picture of us holding each others waists...someone talked to him and still he held on waiting for the picture...then a woman asked him something...then finally they were clear and the camera went off. I wished Mick a long life and great joy, and he thanked me. It was so strange though, kind of hugging Mick Jones for seconds on end until the picture went off. Of all the things to happen. Not quite as wierd as waking up with Jaz I am sure. (Anyone here had that experience????)
When I was a teenager I often wondered what I would say to Joe Strummer..Mick Jones.. if I met them. So there I was cudding Mick. Er....didnt know what to say really. You've kept pretty thin for your age - drugs really do beat the Atkins? Hmm.
Carbon Casino 8 will be in June, in a bigger venue. Talked to Tony James too. Both he and Mick worked really really hard to talk to everyone who approached them and were up front and honest right to the end. Pro's. :)
