Not to be Lisa Simpson annoying here, but I have read so many dumb Dave Grohl interviews to remember that "Foo Fighters" was the term given to the Kamikaze pilots flying into Pearl Harbor?  Or am I totally out of it......wait, don't answer that, I already did.
Anyhoo,  I would really be interested to know how it evolved into a term denoting a UFO......

A few of my friends who I sent this out to commented on the following piece of great journalism from that article:
 
a group that went on to influence everyone from Nirvana to the Foo Fighters.
 
Like…wow, that’s a pretty big range…Nirvana to the Foos. Good spotting John Peel.
