[kj] Indiana Jaz interview on TV3 (NZ)

Absolutely, that’s exactly what I thought as soon as it was out of his
mouth. You don’t tend to start off with a legion of loyal fans, well some
bands do but generally those that are gonna crack it big ANYWAYS, and some
people are lucky enough to cotton on to it quickly enough. This new model of
making money out of a very small but long-term loyal base of fans is more of
a recent thing too in that some bands now have fans who have been fans for
several decades, and have enough disposable cash to afford boxed sets, as
well as little interest in spending their money on current bands.

However having said that, *something* has to come along to replace CDs and
make selling music viable, and perhaps some of the above model is applicable
to smaller acts. Either that or making more money out of gigs, that’s what a
lot of ppl have been assuming would happen, a revival of live music…

I did the math on that NIN set recently and came to the same conclusion as
Jaz, it’s a good point he makes actually…and I’ve heard a lot of musicians
from Chris Cornell to Maynard to Jaz to god knows who mention that the music
industry is in turmoil at the moment, the old model has gone out the door,
and a lot of artists are sitting on the sidelines waiting for things to
smooth out until they release their new material.

Yeah, I ain't disputin' his math, Brendan, just the fact that if you are a
band that is establishing itself you can't make the NIN model or the
Radiohead model work.

Bwahahahahahaha, LOL. What better way to greet the Pox-a-lips than getting
mashed and watching Killing Joke…and that’s a good point you raise about
other acts, they should turn it into the world’s most kick-ass concert, drag
all their mates down, Tool and KJ on the same bill in particular would be
great (for me), and appropriate in that they are both into the occult
etc...NZ is also one of if not the most Tool-friendly country in the world,
I’ve seen them 3 times and every time they come on stage the crowd goes
mental, can’t hear them properly for the first few tracks :-)

…I’m probably just about to head over to Aussie but I’ll definitely be
there in 2012 and I’ll be more than happy to arrange accommodation for as
many Gatherers as can fit in a shoebox :-) Assuming the price of oil hasn’t
sky-rocketed like Jaz says and you have to mortgage the house to travel o/s…

BRENDAN--looks like you've got something to look forward to when "the world
ends" on dec 21-22 2012,as do we all--i know im already looking for cheap
airfare but im thinking i could just get a trainer and be the first human to
swim from east coast usa to nz---i know i can do it! or maybe i can talk
someone into building a raft kon-tiki style or maybe i'll just sell 13,000
limited edition box sets of apotheosizor/clovealicious
triskaidekagrams/masonic smoke machines/wide glide touch screen bitch
slap/yellow snow/black piss memorabilia at $230 a pop like mister reznor is
doing and make a mint--HELL MAYBE I'LL TRY AND GET A GIG OPENING UP FOR KJ
ON DEC 22ND-THEN MY WORLD REALLY WOULD END AND BEGIN ANEW--i've got 4 years
to figure out how to play guitar and sing and play drums and direct the show
at the same time--i just saw some guy play drums and sing and play guitar
simultaneously the other night--there is hope--or maybe i should just plan
on working at a pizza shoppe the rest of my life???? i dunno, things are
brewing and life is getting exciting again--just gotta stay alive and trust
in the good lord jesus christ to help me find the right path---i'm assuming
the new kj record will be christian rock ,right?????i heard theyre gonna
have a new direction and give up that post punk industrial stuff and go back
to the christian thing like on revelations---chop!chop!
or maybe george carlin isn't dead and you can say piss and fuck and shit on
the radio---still cant utter the c word or the m bomb as far as i know
unless you can afford cable and then your aural landscape is as obscenity
filled as u care to hear
R.I.P, MISTER CARLIN---TOO BAD YOUR THEORY OF DEATH BEING CAUSED BY
SWALLOWING TINY AMOUNTS OF SALIVA CAME TRUE AGAIN...POOR GUY

Sheds a bit of light on what the new movie is all about and also…well all
that whinging might have paid off, apparently we are getting a concert in
2012.

*purr*

PS: Just as I suggested, Jaz is doing a couple of months with a trainer to
get in shape before the concert, had to happen really.
