Mr. Okereke is also gay; either stuff.co.nz and Lydon's thuggish
"associates" are unaware of this (I am not aware of Mr Okereke's uniform of
choice being a glittery spandex catsuit and spaceman's helmet) or they had
to concede that his being black was merely a more apparent target.

I have also met many people who have attempted to take advantage of what
their behaviour implies they regard as a stigma; I'm equal opportunities, me
- I'll be offensive to anyone who's offensive, regardless of their hangups.
Did a lot of work with mentally & physically handicapped a few years back -
they actively encouraged me to call them spackas (incidentally, great use of
"spacka" in "Control", I thought). I concluded they were generally tired of
the opposite treatment - the patronising deference.

Years ago, my asian/muslim mate (Moh) was recounting to me the time his car
overheated & he was fucking about under the bonnet, trying to sort it out.
He reminisced about how he went to a nearby shop to get some help & was
embarrassed 'cos his hands were covered in oil & were black from it. It was
just a conversation about car woes.

At this point my black friend jumped in & started challenging seriously as
to "What's wrong with having black hands?"

It occurred to me & Moh that the prick was nothing more than a race-card
playing wanker, of which there are MANY. You know, those people that my
lefty friends don't believe exist.

Sounds a bit like this story too, though I admit my bias in favour of Lydon.
Nevertheless, I can imagine his thicko mates behaving in typical grunt
fashion, but was that John? We shall see...
