Cheers that was interesting. Has anyone seen the file Bottle Rocket that is
mentioned in that? It’s bloody funny, I managed to see it before anyone knew
who Owen Wilson is, it’s probably his best performance IMO

I just read today a great article with Mark Mothersbaugh in a great
throwaway the L.A.Weekly all about how his genius has just thrived before,
during and after Devo. Sort of reminded me of Danny Elfman's trajectory, in
a way.

Almost makes Devo look like an eccentricity on his way to greatness. I
mean, i like the band, but he also seems like 'so much more' also.
Definitely worth a read

Was shopping for cds today, and checked out the Joke section--one copy of KJ
2003 had a hilarious sticker on it--something to the effect of "Beware of
crude language and potentially offensive content"--I guess the distributor
is afraid of people hearing about what's really going on in the world.
I know people will sneer and snicker, but I did buy a USED copy of "Devo
2.0". It's actually quite enjoyable, and my 9 month old loved dancing to it
w/me. The only disappointment was that a few Devo lyrics were changed to be
more kid-friendly (like some lines in "Uncontrollable Urge" about wanting a
snack!). There was also a video w/animation and interviews w/Mark M. and Bob
Casale trying to explain de-evolution to pre-teens (and after being a fan
for 28 years, I finally learned how to pronounce their last names). I think
the project was all in fun, and why not expose kids (or infants, in my case)
to good music! There's also 2 new Devo tunes, one lame and one not bad. ANd
Alex, I know you'll always stick up for DEVO!

P.S. What is this band w/Mick Jones in it people are talking about? I'm lost
(although we did get exposure to Topper's "Queen" band in the US, and yes,
they seem to suck...

Alex,

I have been following them since I first heard of them 3 or so years ago and
they would have free MP3's on their website before they came out with the cd
"The Last Post". It is a pretty good album with tunes that somewhat could
sound like The Clash. We actually went to see them in the beginning of Dec.
at The Troubadour here in L.A. and it was a great gig! Packed to the gills
with late 30's and 40's and it was sold out. It was nice for they were all
adults who saw The Clash or didn't. Mick was having a great time telling
stories and dueling with Tony James. ; ) They sold the CD there and I bought
one that came with a free autograph poster for $15! Quite the bargain! The
shirts were not all so grand and went for $ 25 for which I did not buy.

After the gig we went to the alley way behind the venue and got to meet old
Mick with two autograph hounds who looked like hippies that were getting
Clash records signed to sell on EBAY I suppose? Totally not your regular
fans if I may add. After he was done I introduced myself to him and told him
the firs time I heard The Clash was on the radio station KROQ when I was 12
in 1979 and how I never got to see them play live back in 1982 or 1983 but
did see them on the old Saturday Night Live clone show "Fridays" were they
played 4 songs! He was impressed for I said seeing that show is what got me
into Punk Rock and then I shaved my head a year and a half later! To see
Mick smile and laugh was classic!

We also saw and talked to Kevin Haskins of Bauhaus and was the most humble
and nicest guy to talk to you! A real straight up cat! I told him of the
story were my punk buddies snuck into the dressing room at The Roxy on
Sunset Blvd. via the ground and how they were in there eating their food and
drinking their drinks when they came in and caught them! Where they soon
after smoked them out and got to see the band on the side of the stage.
After I told him he said.. "Those Fuckers!" with a big smile and laugh! That
was classic! By the way the new Bauhaus "Gone Away White" is not so bad. I
have to listen to it again but it has 10 songs. I got it off Soulseek which
I was surprised to see it was already out there. Peter's voice is really
good on it and carry's it in some songs really for a long time! I think some
of you Bauhaus fans will like it and some may not. After all I think
"Burning From The Inside" is better a swan song so go figure.

Has anyone heard their record? I have it, but most confess to not having
gotten around to actually listening to it. Afraid what I might find there.

Personally speaking, I was bored to tears by that Good, Bad, Queen disc.
Awful.
