Languedoc was an abrreviation for the people who said OC for yes as opposed to Langue D’oil – Oui nowadays or the French…a big North/south divide in medieval times…it is now a region within Occitania, and has the same flag…yes it’s a good book, but somewhat romantic
I would recommend

The Perfect Heresy: The Revolutionary Life and Spectacular Death of the Medieval Cathars

True, I just didn't want to further an obscure issue since most people have never heard about cathars, ooccitanian, etc. before. Supposedly, Occitania, Toulouse, etc. still don't consider themselves french.

(Was Occitania same as the Languedoc?

I may have missed that in my readings.)

For anyone who may be interested, a good book to read on the Czthars is,

"Massacre At Montsegur: A history of the Albigensian Crusade" by Zoe Oldenbourg.

It is very thorough and it humanizes the issue and most of all the victims of it all.

If anyone has any other recommendations,

i'd be interested too, especially if touches on

any possible parallels or even influences with Buddhism.

Well if you are referring to the Cathars,  it actually began in Occitania, which was not part of France, the crusade was a thinly disguised land grab/genocide…the flag on the website HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occitan_cross"http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occitan_cross  says something about Wisigoths, but it definitely is not FRENCH
