siouxsie and b started of punk,but if you think about it and listen to there lyrics,even on the scream, which was there first album,there is a decididly goth feel to them,which followed through to the majority of the word--where would you place--join hands? id say post punk/goth,kellidoscope-exsperimental/touching on goth as well and so on ;)
id say siouxsie is the queen of both early punk 76-78 and of early goth in her case  78 until well to day really,and pete murphys-bauhaus lot are the kings of early goth!!!

For me def Bauhaus. Siouxsie was punk. Even though she denies it now. So why was she part of the Bromley Contingent if she was not?

Mention Bauhaus to a young goth and they do not know what you are talking about. To me, Bela Lugosis Dead was the very first goth song.

APPARENTLY, loads of them over here have vitamin d deficiencies cos they are nocturnal, not exactly ‘sporty’ or ‘outdoorsy’, or that often ‘awake’, and if they ever see the sun it’s from the inside of a trenchcoat with gloves and makeup and looking down and hat or 4 feet of hair…I’ve never really studied Gothius Nocturnalis in the field, so can’t say what they are like…I imagine not too many of them would get away with listening to a bit of Jane’s Addiction on the side. Probably excommunicatible that one.
