bongo, as far as I am aware, you are right. UK Decay, IIRC,
enthusiastically embrased the label "goth" or just "gothic punk" which
also was ironically briefly called "positive punk." (Odd, when you
consider that in the late 80s "posi-core" came to be synonymous with
straight-edge hardcore like Youth of Today -- just ask our own resident
NYHC vet Adam Helfer, who knows way more about that than me.)

I like goth-punk in the original sense. But especially it's American
counterpart, the Los Angeles death rock scene (45 Grave, Super
Heroines). The post-mid-1990s, Hot Topic, kinder-goth, lunch
box-carrying, Marilyn Manson type crap is a no-go for me though. Fuck that.
