[kj] Some thoughts on the remasters

Picked them up on Saturday. Nice to see them mid-price, and of course
pleasing that they were dedicated to Raven. A timely reminder of how much he
enriched our lives. At first I thought maybe including OTG was a bit
inappropriate, but then I thought what a perfect way to bring that episode
to a close.

Let's hope Heath Ledger is the only joker to die this year.

Sound quality is excellent on all of them. (Slight echo on FIRE DANCES,
though?) Highlights for me are the bonus tracks, especially the Jensen
sessions in all their glory for the first time, and the FD Peel session.
Good that we now have the mix of BTaTS that the band intended (not sure why
the original album went out with the Mendelsohn mixes if it wasn't what the
band wanted, however – or have I misunderstood?). Better still they left the
extended mix of 'Stay One Jump Ahead' off OTG! Poor JC001.

OTG surprised me the most, actually, in terms of how much I liked it (I
expected to like the others). I know he was cracking up in a quite
spectacular way at the time, but Jaz is an amazing musician and this still
shines through. (If anyone's curious as to what he's saying in the backwards
part at the start of the early version of 'Obsession' it's, er, "obsession"
fascinatingly enough.)

All in all they have left me once again of the opinion that this band kacked
on all others from a towering height higher than a thousand suns.

What a shame they didn't include the earlier Peel sessions from their
respective remasters, though.
