Speaking of Joy Division, who let the Killers do that crap!
Is it me, or do they smell a wee bit sycophantic, or ex-session musician?
"boys, do a follow up with Lou Reed, they'll luv ya!"

No problem with people enjoying music, that's great, but I hate it when it's dressed as the next best thing..buy, sell, buy, sell..

You know, I don’t have that much of a problem with lifting a sound in principle. If I really like a style of music, chances are my obsessive compulsive tendencies aren’t going to be satisfied by what the template band are able to produce anyway. I can appreciate that the copyists aren’t necessarily at the same level, but I can still derive pleasure from their output. The older I get the more I recognise as musical rip-offs anyway – “Lights”, from Editors’ “Back Room” (to pluck another band accused of Joy Division plagiarism) is so clearly an Echo & The Bunnymen track that it doesn’t even bear mentioning. However, I (sort of) like Joy Division, so Interpol & Editors (among many, many others) resonate on some level with me. I can go and see them live, at least, although listening to Interpol in the comfort of my own home avoids having to tolerate Dengler’s spivviness. It occurs to me that Interpol, at least, are guiltier of ripping off Martin Hannett’s involvement with Joy Division than of pastiching Joy Division themselves. With regard to the vocal style, you sing with what you’ve got – I don’t suppose Mr Interpol could any more sing like Tiny Tim than Jaz could sing like an industrial mincer – oh, hang on...

KJ have their own copyists, from 1919 onwards, who I can also enjoy. Play Dead’s “Break”, for example, has a killer riff I could easily imagine Geordie coming up with. There’s too much shit music around to reject the stuff at least inspired by music of value.
