What i used to like at the time a very lot about "KJ2003" is that -as the band used to do all these years- it showed a new-reinvented Killing Joke, it was a nice surprising album, exciting, with great drum beats. I put it over "Hossanas..." anytime, which has some good songs but imho isn't surprising at all. To me it's the only record in which the band didn't developed a whole new sound. The sound/atmosphere it's very similar to KJ2003 but with a worst production.

Define a single fave KJ album is pretty damn hard, albums come and go from time to time. In the "Nigh Time" / "BTATS" debate, right now i's stay with BTATS.

BTATS - with heavier production could have been far more powerful. Still find it a bit weak even with the new mixes (though it is greatly improved)

Hosannas could have been far more accessible. The edits were better but I still think it gets a poor deal

Democracy sounds cluttered. Geordie's guitar is not all that great IMO

But generally most albums have been alright.

2003 does sound a little "technical" would have been nice to hear it live, but I think a good song shines through.

I'm playing this for the 1st time in - crumbs - probably since

Hosannas came out.

I'd forgotten how good an album it actually is.

Maybe it's hearing it again after so long.

Compared to the muddy production of Hosannas it sounds really fresh.

Hanyhoo, it's got me thinking...

Actually, I'm going to pretend I'm that woman on Men in Trees.

(Yes, I am a girl, but the wife likes it & it reminds me of Northern

Exposure.)

"Hey Elmo, me & my friend Patrick were just discussing the production

short falls of the ever unpopular but oh so influential beat combo

Killing Joke.

Would our affections towards certain recordings be different were they

produced differently from the outset? Live many tracks take on a

totally different light.

So my question to you Elmo is: with better production, how many

Killing Joke albums would we view in an entirely different light?"
