John Mcgeoch died of alcohol related ill health I believe. About 7 or 8 years back, a specialist nurse I knew was seeing him regularly at his home somewhere in Derbyshire.Absolutely gifted and sadly missed. Mark

"i did meet him on more than a few occassions"
I would have loved to have met John McGeoch. He is second to only one guitarist and we all know who he is.
Saw him play with Magazine a couple of times in half empty venues.
Never discovered what caused his death at such a young age.

"playground twist"
Top track and ecellent, as are the rest, on the Voices On The Air sessions CD.

Brian.

hi brian,

maybe you are just listening to the guitar parts and if your a true fan of that instrument,i can understand you doing that

as for myself,i tend to take in a whole tune, what ever i am listening to,that including all the instruments, plus vocals and lyrics, all at once although like most,i do hear the individual instruments, but its on a unison level although for me,it does have an order
first i hear mostley in everything the drums and vocal/lyrics,then comes the bass

the guitar is the last instrument that turns me on

ok i never said anything personally against the guitarist they had during that peroid, actually,i did meet him on more than a few occassions i can tell you now, that he was a lovely guy, genuine,a bit of a one off,and he loved his guitar alot, credict where credicts due, they got the right guy
kaleidoscope,i think personally,is definatly a mellow--mood style of album ,i did prefure the s.a.t.bansheese in there earlier days to be perfectly honest(although there are still gem tracks on every album they did beyound the first 2--just not every track was great in my eyes)

and if you want to know what track where the guitar is very original to me ,its--playground twist--i rate that track alot, actually the range of instruments on that track blend so superbly--the bells

"i found kaleidoscope very weak in both material, power and true banshee style"

I think it's widely thought amongst Banshees fans that Kaleidoscope was one of the weaker albums, especially of the first four or five. McGeoch was absolutely fantastic on this album and proved how right in guitar playing terms that "less is more" or which ever guitar player said "it's what you dont play rather that what you do play that counts". McGeoch came up with the guitar part for Happy House as part of his Banshees audition...brilliant. Maybe I'm listening to the LP and just taking in the guitar?

i saw my first bansheese gig in 1979 at the rainbow threatre that was in area called-- finsbury park, this gig was absolutly amaizing,i was blown away by the sheer power of siousxies voice and the instrimental side of matters left an impression on me for many years,it was that effective--jealouse?? you should be for it was one not to miss
seen then after that time through the years!

as i appreciate--the scream/join hands....so very much,i found kaleidoscope very weak in both material, power and true banshee style,i guess that was there resting period as it certainly sounded like it they were just warming up ready for the master piece of

--ju ju -- ive always loved the bansheese, they were/are, on a whole very good wether its solo stuff they were doing or as a group, but for me o would not say they are better than k.j,just different
