I know. I'm in the middle of 666 Hail Geordies:

Hail Geordie,
full of awesomeness,
the Lord is with you,

Blessed are you among musicians
and awesome is the fruit of your awesomeness

Holy Geordie, cousin of God,
pray for us sinners
now and at the hour of our death and resurrection

Amen.

Brendan,

Is there somebody missing from that list of favourite guitarists?

Brian.

Cheers all for your advice, appreciate it.

I'll ask for some advice from two of my sisters' boyfriends (different
sisters, both boyfriends called John, both musicians, go figure), one is a
drummer and fellow Soundgarden freak, the other was lead guitarist in a
moderately popular NZ band from back in the day (The Warners, remember
them Bongo?) and he's a bit of a demon on the guitar, to my ear. Both owe
me favours for computer and gym help but would help me anyways.

My favourite guitarist is Kim Thayil from Soundgarden, other favourites
are Hendrix, Page, Frank Zappa, Brian May, Pepper Keenan, Jerry Cantrell,
Dimebag, Steve Morse, Slash, Joe Satch, Petrucci, Steve Vai, Josh Homme,
Jack White, Angus Young, Adam Jones, Kirk Hammet, SRV, David Gilmour...a
lot of whom would be regarded as sounding great but not technically the
greatest.

PS: (Not my words):

My favorite Kim Thayil quote:
"I can play guitar better than 95% of the guitarists out there.
Unfortunately, the top 5% are in the music business, so that puts me at
the bottom!"

My favorite quote about Kim:
"I learned a lot from Kim- like how to win an argument without being right
(laughs)."- Chris Cornell.
