[kj] Everman

Yeah true that, at least he's been there done that. Shame about the last
choice though. And in terms of heavy metal, there's plenty of Nirvana and
especially Soundgarden that I'd classify as metal leaning, both of them
hit me harder than most of that tinny shit metal from the 80s with the
piss-weak drumming, production, high pitched screaming, boring homogenous
guitar work, and retarded 14-year old boy's fantasy themes. Oh and the
horror props and artwork.

Songs like Limo Wreck and Lithium blow all that shit out of the water.
Would have to put Alice in Chains right up there too. I often have
arguments with friends about which one of the three was "harder". Of
course it's Soundgarden, as my doctorate will one day prove... ;)

There are a lot of techniques and themes that, to me, make a song
"harder", as we were talking about in terms of KJ recently e.g. Exorcism,
other than the stock standard metal, high tempo, cookie monster (or
ridiculously high pitched) vocals, trebbly guitar solo crap. Such as
slowing everything down to a sludgly pace (Sabbath, Soundgarden), tension
and release (Nirvana), counterpoint / harmony (Alice in Chains), low fi
(Kyuss), rhythm-driven (Tool, Soundgarden, Rage) etc.

My .02 worth.
