That's funny (well not "funny" exactly, but...), I watched that Chelsea
match on TV and wondered what the shirts were about (our U.S. feed from
the Premier League shows some random pre-game clips with American
voice-over, then goes straight into the English commentary at the first
whistle, so there was no explanation). I assumed it was a missing kid
and that was that. I heard/didn't notice nothing about her in U.S.
press until last weekend, with headlines referring to "Madeline" as if I
knew who she was. No idea all that publicity was going on. The one story
I read to catch up sure did make everything sound...odd.

Not to be crass, but she clearly fills a void in the "missing white girl
story" slot that U.S. cable news outlets are always needing to fill. Yay.
