[kj] Jonesy's Jukebox

I see where you're coming from, but I didn't feel it was a hippy vibe at all - playing all that Pandemonium-era music there wasn't much peace'n'love on offer...

I have huge respect for Youth, but I have to say -- when I saw him play with the `Joke in `94 (circa PANDEMONIUM), he looked like a Dr. Seuss character -- big silly hat, a vest with no shirt and a kilt and bare feet. He'd have looked more at home in the ranks of the Ozric Tentacles or Gong or someone like that.

When I first saw KJ it was just after Raven had joined (83).  I saw them a lot in those years (and from I guess about 85 onwards, they had someone else doing keyboards for the gigs, thus giving Jaz more freedom to roam the stage).  So I was pretty much used to Jaz-as-frontman.  But then in 94 or whenever, Youth returned to the fold, and I saw him on stage with Jaz.  I thought Youth had amazing stage presence - rivalling Jaz, in fact.  It gave a very different experience to KJ live.

He was also amazing at the Transmission gig in the spring.

A lot of the old NME, Sounds, etc. music press articles also compare the young Youth to Sid Vicious. You know, all those articles archived at that one fan site, whose URL and name I forgot, but which is tremendously useful and well-documented. In fact some of the earliest articles acted like Youth was the star of the band, barely mentioning Jaz at all.
