I ve been thinking about this Brendan and have worked out your angle . You are taking a one off case, something that happened only once ,( and it happened for a reason ), you are taking this one off case and you are trying to make out that this is the Polices normal policy .
   You are tying to say "Jeezz, the police now go around pubs and interrogate people for opening letters" . And you are trying to imply that we are heading towards a Police state . 
   You cannot take a one off case under special circumstances and try to portray this as regular police behaviour , because it quite simply not the case
  If the Police  had guns, then they would have been from a specialist section , the armed Police , so they would have been on Anti Terror duties.
   For you to take a on off occurrence and try to imply that this is normal police behavior is quite absurd .   The Police questioned two Men who were acting suspiciously near the governments hotel and you are trying to imply that the Police arrest anyone who opens a letter in a pub........which quite simply is not the case at all

The Police thought that the two men  were acting suspiciously , why the Police thought that they were acting suspiciously is unknown . The Police do not go around searching people and questioning them with no valid reason .   The Police dont go around pointing guns at people for opening letters whilst having a quiet beer .  IT wasn't so long ago that the Government's Hotel got bombed and nearly wiped out half the Government .  We are loving in the age of attacks and suicide bombers, the authorities must remain vigilant
