Failure were such a great band. They changed my teenaged life when i saw them open for Tool in 93 and again with their album Magnified the following year. The bassist's current band is called Autolux and they're actually pretty good.

I have found it difficult to find post 70s and 80s music that I have embraced as wholeheartedly as my early favourites. It's probably due to the difference between discovering music as a teen/young adult as opposed to discovering it after age 25. The music that you embrace in your early years will probably always have something special about it. That said - my collection includes the following 90s acts:
Chroma Key
OSI
Failure (Sadly defunct. They just missed my top 10)
The Mars Volta (also out of the 10 by a whisker)
Opeth
NIN
Radiohead
Rammstein
Stone Temple Pilots (or did they start in the late 80s?)
QOTSA (I prefer them to Kyuss - more variety)
Porcupine Tree (more about these guys in a later post Alex)

In terms of the new bands, I quite like:? The Horrors (I know, I know, I'm sorry), Secret Machines (thought their guitar player just quit), Brand New, The Sword and Mastodon.

Has anyone heard Porcupine Tree? They certainly sound promising.

Much as I love a lot of the bands on most of the top ten lists from you all, I do get the feeling that most of the stuff is 80?s music. What about today?s bands?
