It stands to reason that the loudest shows you've seen were all electronic in some way. You can just push and push the levels and still have them sounding clean. I remember the show I saw on the last Skinny Puppy tour as being pretty damn fucking loud. One of the loudest I've ever seen. The Melvins show I saw in 2000 was probably the loudest rock show I've ever seen. I saw them a few weeks ago at the Festival du Musique Actuel in Victoriaville, Quebec but they didn't really push the volume to the limits that time. It was still mindblowing, nonetheless.

I'm going to pick up my tickets for Sonar in Baltimore in 1/2-hour from now (2:30 est). I'm expecting it to be loud as the last tour actually had a warning sign outside the 9:30 Club in D.C. saying that the Decibel level would be very high and that the use of earplugs was highly recommended. You know what? It wasn't that bad. Of course, I always wear earplugs as I'm a live sound engineer (and they're my tools) so maybe it was.
The three loudest shows I've seen:
1) Ministry-Land of Rape & Honey Tour--Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD. Not surprising because it was in a small concert hall.
2) BT (yes, the techno artist) on the Movement in Still Life Tour. The bass was pulversizing.
3) Delerium, (no joke) the Front Line Assembly downtempo side-project. Greg Reely was making full use of the P.A. system at 9:30 Club.

Hey everyone. I got to see Skinny Puppy a couple of nights ago in Toronto and it was an AMAZING show. Even better than the show I caught on their 2004 tour. The setlist was incredibly varied and quite unpredictable. They didn't even play Testure, Smothered Hope, Tin Omen or Harsh Stone White. I won't spoil it for anyone who might be seeing them in the near future and say what they DID play. I'll just say that, if you are a big fan, I can't see how you could be disappointed. A couple songs I know have never been played before and others haven't seen the light of day in years. Lots of new stuff as well, which sounded incredible. One of the LOUDEST shows I've ever seen. They were in fine form and still have the fire burning strongly. Great effects and backing films as well. Do a search on their tourdates and catch them if you can. Your life will thank you for doing so. Cheers!

Leigh
