Utter tripe these days. Last album I liked was POP.

They have become increasingly patchy . . I quite enjoyed Vertigo but haven't really heard anything else from their current stuff that I could say I actually liked . .

RE: U2, I remember reading an encouraging quote about "The Fly". "That guitar noise in the intro," said the Edge, "is the sound of four men cutting down The Joshua Tree". Liked that. Liked the whole album that spawned it too.

The stuff they've done since? Not as much.

This was a pretty drastic change indeed, i remember been kind of shocked when i first listen to 'The Fly'... i was pretty skeptic about this change, but then this skepticism turned into curiosity, and then -after three or four times i listened the full album- i really liked 'Achtung Baby' (Also remember I got 'Achtung Baby' for Christmas along with 'Trompe Le Mond' (Pixies), 'Revelations', 'Firedances' (i only had this two on a home-recorded cassette) and a bootleg VHS of a KJ concert... i guess my girlfriend Olivia really loved me ;) .
That tour was the first time U2 came to Mexico -The Pixies were opening in the US if i remember well, and i was hoping they came too, that would have been amazing!-, the tickets sold out pretty fast in 3 or 4 hours or something like that. The gig was excelent! The openers were Big Audio Dynamite, and that boring DJ floating over the crowd. All the visual set of that tour was amazing (the Trabants hanging, the TVs, etc.). One of my top 3 of all time.
They returned several years later with the Pop Music Tour, but i didn't enjoyed very much. They came again last year but i didn't felt like going. After 'Zooropa' U2 became pretty boring to me, and none of their gigs will stand over the first time i saw them, so i think i'll never go to a U2 concert again.

U2 going from their Joshua Tree era to the Achtung Baby album and tour was a

pretty drastic change in every way for the band. I remember some people

actually *crying* as they left the arena after the show when I saw one of

the first shows of the ZooTV tour as if their goodie-two shoes heroes had

flipped off God and embraced Satan.

It was great.
