Adam,

Holy shit, that's Assert! A friend of mine runs a website and every week
-- sometimes every day -- he chooses as "MySpace Band of the Day." I
remember he chose UK's Assert as his band of the week a few weeks back.
I was surprised to find them that way, but I mostly remember their page
because it said, in big letters: "NOTE: WE ARE A HARDCORE BAND OF THE
PUNK KIND, NOT TH METAL KIND."

As a friend of mine once said, you can be punk without being hardcore,
but you cannot be hardcore without being punk. Unforunately there's a
new generation of bands that think the two are mutually exclusive, and
that the latter involves buying Gibson black gothic guitars (some with 7
strings, an extra low one), playing really really drop-tuned and sludgy
like Limp Bizkit, and having ... goatees. :) (I like my fair fair share
of sludgy metal -- Amebix, older Neurosis, Celtic Frost -- but a lot of
System of a Down Stuff-type stuff, no.) In any event, Assert got my
respect right then and there, when I saw that message on their page.

-Oliver
