[kj] Killing Joke- Buy or Die

this is a huge arguement that has been talked about endlessly.

The industry is fighting against as it has with everything else (home taping
, etc.).

Who is getting screwed on this deal?

The consumer

And maybe MAYBE the independent record store but I would argue that INDUSTRY
driven CORPORATE franchises (ala Best Buy) are doing this a million times
more than consumer download practices. And this has been BLATANTLY going on
LONG before downloading was even an issue.

I rarely download. And if so it is usually bootlegs, out of print or so
obscure I'll never be able to get it.

I downloaded ALL of the Killing Joke releases since 2003. I bought all of
the Kiling Joke releases since 2003. This includes imports, singles,
repressings and others. Have done the same with other artists. Fans are
always going to buy the releases. Johnny-come-latelys may not.

Hence why downloading needs to be proactive. It is likely that more people
are hearing more music because of downloading.

So why would the industry be scared to allow this?
Because it could be the same as radio stations that play bands. They have
to pay royalties to the label which thus SHOULD pay royalties to its
artisits. Which would mean that the industry would have to shell out more
money.

Downloading is not stealing from artists. I'm sorry. There is no way that
I will EVER believe that Killing Joke is going poor because of downloading.
They are going poor because of band business decisions and the inability to
stay active long enough. If anything downloading may have helped them with
the under promoted 2003 tour. Metallica will never lose a cent. Get
someone on the same scale as Killing Joke with out such bad luck (by people
that may have only had a passing interest). Same story. In fact a lot of
smaller artists are getting with the game by either allowing downloads, or
selling "exclusive downlaod tracks, or exclusive material all together.

Fuck the meter maids man...that's just how I feel
