I think I'm right in saying that if there's one common belief in gnostic Christianity, it's that the universe we know was created by a lesser god than the one Christians generally worship. Some might even say Satan created it, which is generally the reason/excuse/apology for evil in the world.

Then I think I'm right in saying that some gnostics see Lucifer (not to be confused with Satan) as the 'Light Bringer' who offered humanity occult knowledge and, therefore, a way of eventually detaching themselves from this material plane, leapfrogging over the lesser creator to be at one with the good god up in the sky.

Jaz did some orchestral work called Prometheus, right? Again, I think I'm right in saying that Prometheus is identified with Lucifer as a Light Bringer / bringer of knowledge.

Not sure if this all ties in with Masonry though.
