[kj] OT: Few lunatic questions

I suppose they were industrial in that they represented a kind of cold, mechanical sound with alot of space. But industrial in a sense of mirroring declining industry if that makes sense (when you consider the socio-economic climate of the times). Always gave me images of desolate mills and shattered windows (full of joy today!!)

As for "industrial" I have alwyas hated that term and found "industrial" bands as:

1. Originally, making a fucking tuneless racket that couldn't pass for music (to sound like my Dad there!). 

2. The term Industrial as applied to bands like NIN who just make a "flat" sound with formulaic guitar sounds/drum sounds. Horrible.

That's my 2 pennies worth, at the end of the day, it don't move me and I just cannot put Killing Joke in that category. There is a warmth to Killing Joke that I do not find in "industrial" music.

There was a discusion on Joy Division on 6 Music last night and they
described them on more than one occasion as industrial. Just shows its all
about perceptions.
