You guys should have seen Amanpondo as Juno Reactor's rhythm section during their Shango Tour in '01. Somersaulting, backflipping, acrobatic, tribal drumming, furious rhythms in full tribal outfits (all of it without missing a beat) and Killing Joke accolyte / Youth collaborator Ben Watkins aka Juno Reactor for a night of hardcore tribal/trance.
Pure shamanic ritual, not to be missed:
[that's Jaz, there]
Next in Gathering's FantasyGigs 2.0
would be Geordie Walker w/ Konono No.1.
Any other Fantasy Gigs / Onstage Collaborations??

Yup, it sure was different. I just don't think it was really good.
I'd barely give it an average rating (music wise) and the tapping in middle
of the songs seemed on occasion to be a tad off.
But it was interesting to watch.

I saw an outfit called Tilly and the Wall on Letterman last night--wild stuff. 3 female singers who also appeared to be tap dancing, singing sort of hamonized pop hooks with an "spaghetti Western", almost Mexican feel to the song. Now that was different.
As for KJ, there was an album by an early 80s band called TC Matic (the best song was called "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang") that was very KJ sounding, a lot more than PiL or Gang of 4.

be fair radiohead are at least trying to do something different, with kid a, and TY's solo album
at the moment i can only think of 2 mainstream artists who're trying new stuff
radiohead and mike patton
ps: radiohead can't be held responsible for the crap indie bands who try to copy them just as fnm can't be held responsible for nu-metal ;-)

I've already heard Radiohead being described as 'groundbreaking' recently. Sheesh...

I think that PiL must go down as a close relative to the Jokers, mainly down to Wobble's dubby bass, but also due to the intransigent nature of the respective vocalists, both experimental in the face of more populist leanings from their peers (though latterly less so) and both carving out an inimitable style that has prompted many to 'have a go'. On that note I wonder who will have a similar influence in 20 years time from today's crop of mutants...
