But he does seem intolerant or else he would not have asked her to remove it Ade!
He has an opinion and that's fine, but I think it is foolish that a high profile minister should make such a claim, especially now.

As an MP, he should put the personal preferences of his constituents over his. If she wishes to wear a veil, he should respect that. It seems very egotistical to me to ask her to remove it. I just do not understand him. If he feels uncomfortable, that is more his problem and hers. Why should she have to change?

It just seems damn silly to me.

And I'm not comparing Straw to Hitler. Can't see where you got that from mate.

I found it very odd that Jack Straw made this request.
Our government talks of tolerance and then a senior minister seems intolerent of someone's cultural standards.

It was desecribed as being akin to asking a western woman to show a bit more cleavage.

Insensitive and wrong.

No, a western woman wouldn't get away with wearing a bikini on a beach in Saudi. The Saudi's are hardline and  it would be nice if they allowed some flexibility. They don't so people should work within the rules.

It is not illegal to wear the veil, just as it is not illegal to have sunglasses on. Have blue hair, tattoos, piercings. Would Straw have made a similar request? I think not.

The man was a fool for making the suggestion.

Similarly Jaz is a fool for telling people in the muslim world to not wear western style clothes.
But then we know he's a big gob!
