Nope! Lots of inspiration comes at the very last minute. You might be in a good location, really into the track and then try something different or even make a mistake that sounds good.
Sure enough, you have to have the inspiration in the first place but you'd surprised about how many songs come from studio jams. You can walk into a room and feel the energy there and get a buzz off it and something just.............flows.

You don't get the same feeling from a postcard as you do from being in the place do you? It's teh same with music. Trying to recreat in a crappy atmosphere will result in a crappy performance. Also, teh acoustics some into play a huge amount which add to teh vide. One vocal recorded in a broom cupboard will sound totally different to a vocal in a ballroom for example.

Doesnt "inspiration " come in the writing process? The recording bit is just 
getting what you ve written down on tape. The writing bit where the 
inspiration is required, the recording is just the mechanical bit.
  You need inspiration for ideas, once you have the inspiration and the 
ideas written down, you no longer need to be in an inspiring place. Do you?
