I don't think I'd call the location "irrelevant." Obviously, if the players feel the locale is suitably inspirational, it might goad them into finer or more distinctive performances than otherwise. The notion of recording within the King's Chamber of the Great Pyramid is an intriguing one (if slightly disrespectful, when you really think about it), but the whole notion of "war zones" just seems sort've ludicrous -- and also disrespectul to a degree. "Hello, sorry to trouble you, but we thought we'd just set up our equipment and play some scary songs while you two camps shell each other. Don't mind us, carry on. We'll be done in a second." Seems awfully touristy.
