[kj] Killing Joke - Is that it?

I don't understand all the negativity over Hossanas, I think it's a great
album, maybe not as strong
as the selftitled 2003 album, but definatley on form and certainly no where
near their worst. If KJ, where to finish I think they would have done so
years ago. No I reckon they may take a break for 2-3-4 years and then
release another album to blow us all away
again.
I've said before, there are no other contenders coming forward to take the
crown, so let KJ live on. Unless they dip
back into some of their dodgy 80's stuff, which i doubt would happen again.
As thats normaly down to the record companies
fault, trying to make a newly signed band the next pop sensation, and when
they have paid you x amounts of millions to record
x amounts of albums most bands don't have a say what shit the company puts
out. Not until they have made that money back treblefold
for the company anyway. And if a band gets shelved by the company, for later
release, then ultimatly the bands disintergrate under a lot of debt, the
record companies then release any old crap, to try and recover their money
whilst the bands get stuck with the rep of going shite.
Thankfully I beleive and hope, KJ are well passed that stage.
Long live the Joke
Shaun

All I did was ask a question.
I love Hosannas -- a great, sludgy opener, then right into a thrashy
number, with Jaz exploring, as I've said before, more of the Lemmy side
of his vocals, which I think is fantastic. It's the 1987 - 1998 KJ I
can't stand, with the exception of some songs on Pandemonium that have
held up well despite time's best efforts ("White Out" and a couple of
others.) But, yep, excellent album. And, no, I'm not frozen in 1999. I
mentioned Tragedy, World Burns to Death, who also released great LPs
this year - heard of them? Let me guess.

the funny thing about Hosannas is that only us gatheres are insatisfied with
the album, everyone I put the record to listen to, that are not acompaning
their carreer, finds the album very powerful!!

An old friend of mine who saw KJ with me in 1982 and who
has hardly listened to them since thinks Hosannas is amazing
(I made them listen to it). She knew instantly it was Killing Joke.
(And you're thinking, so... what...)
Thing is, I just don't get it; I don't understand why some
gatherers think Hosannas is so bad. I'm listening to a
career-spanning CD I made right now and the Hosannas
tracks sit perfectly, mixed up with everything else. Nothing to make
you think, Ooh, this must have been their shit period.
Judas Goat? Stunning. Invocation, Majestic (which has a
*very* Firedances-y section in it), Lightbringer, Walking With Gods -
fantastic stuff. Dripping with the essence of Killing Joke.
Implosion would have sat comfortably on Extremities. Like
I say, I Just. Don't. Get. It. I hope for your sakes it isn't their last.

Hosannas was great. One of the Top 10 LPs of 2006, in any event.

BECAUSE NO ONE ASKED FOR IT:
...according to Alex in NYC. You make your own.
Hosannas Report Card:
Jaz Coleman: Grade: C-. Jaz, your heart is in the right place, it seems, but
you're trying to get by solely on hype and bluster. You're not spending
enough time with your songwriting, which is deplorably evident in your
lyrics. Your voice is shot from all the cigars and the wine. Apply yourself
and you won't have to keep reminding people of your genius. Your work will
speak for itself. Also, learn to get along with others and to compromise.
There is no "I" in "team."
Geordie - Grade: B+. While I still pine for the days of the "bell" tone,
Geordie continues to hand in top drawer work. Go to the head of the class,
Mr. Walker.
Raven - Grade: B. Were it in my power, I'd give you higher marks for effort,
but much of your contributions have been lost in the shuffle. Your
classmates are largely to blame for your failure to be heard. Still, you get
bonus credit for all your extracurriculur work, and you set a shining
example that your classmates would do well to follow (though I won't hold my
breath). You also have the best school spirit. Keep it up. You're the one to
watch.
Benjamin - Grade: B- . Don't be discouraged. Not only are you "the new kid
in school," like your wingman, Paul Raven (pardon the pun), your
contributions to the project were laregly buried in the mix. The bits that
do rise to the surface are respectable enough, but there is still room for
improvement. Keep it up and do not be discouraged by the bullies in the
class.
Production - Grade: D -. A muddled, busy, mess. You should all be ashamed
of yourselves.
Album Artwork - Grade C-. While I admire your attempt at a fresh approach,
I'm afraid this particular experiment backfired. Also, your scribbling over
the canvas only added insult to injury. Unfortunate. Several points off.

I'm a 16 year old student and I love all of Killing Jokes music. Not so much
Hosannas, but its growing on me.Killing Joke are pretty much the only band I
listen to anymore, other bands get boring too quickly.Thats what I like
about
Killing Joke, they explore different styles of music rather than sticking to
the same old shit
