I have to say, since I started working here at MTV last January, I've been subjected to all-sorts of shrill, irritating piffle that makes most of everyone's picks so far sound like God's Own Divine Flatulence. For me to break it down into a mere "top three" is completely out of the question. That said, I can rattle off a string of names that send me into enraged apoplexy, among them: ASHLEE SIMPSON, MARIAH CAREY, THE BLACK EYED FUCKIN' PEAS, BEYONCE, KELLY CLARKSON, FALL OUT BOY, USHER, WYCLEF JEAN, SHAKIRA, PANIC AT THE DISCO and NINETY-NINE POINT NINE PERCENT OF ALL CONTEMPORARY HIP HOP. 

And yes -- maybe Christina Aguilera *Does* have a voice -- THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT EVERYTHING SHE DOES WITH IT IS GREAT, let alone tolerable! I fuckin' HATE that garbage.

There's music that some people like and music that people don't like -- and then there's BAD MUSIC, i.e. music that people SHOULDN'T like. By this I mean obvious stuff like Ashlee Simpon, Jessica Simpson, Nick Lachey, P.Diddy, Britney Spears, etc. I'm not condeming pop music -- just *BAD* pop music. I know I sound like a crotchedy old man, but the "kids" who lap up this fuckin' sonic soma really need to raise their damn standards and STOP TREATING THEIR EARS LIKE URINALS!!!!

In a perfect world, people would be as discriminating with what they put in their ears as they are with what they put in their mouths (but, of course, here in Fast Food Nation, that idea doesn't count for much).
