[kj] OT: MAKE IT STOP!

They're certainly safer. Thugs in these parts have learned to spot the white iPod headphones, so they know when someone's carrying a proper iPod rather than a cheap copy. I don't have one, but the first thing every member of my family has done is buy a different set of 'phones.
   
  Mind you, my sister (also called Alex) says they're uncomfortable too.
